Helping children find their calm
An Introduction to Relaxation for Children
Practical, playful relaxation tools shaped around each child.
Children do not always relax in the same ways as adults and an activity that works beautifully for one child may feel uncomfortable, uninteresting or inaccessible to another.
This live, interactive online training will help professionals introduce relaxation in ways that feel meaningful, enjoyable and appropriate for the individual child. Rather than relying on a single technique, we will explore a range of practical approaches that can be adapted around a child’s age, communication, interests, abilities, sensory preferences and circumstances.
The session combines professional knowledge with practical demonstrations and opportunities to experience the activities for yourself. You will leave with ideas that can be used in health, education, social care, hospice, charity and community settings.
Upcoming dates
Choose from:
Thursday 13 May 2027, 10.30am–2.00pm

What we will explore
During the session, we will consider:
What relaxation means to children and why their understanding may be different from ours
The relationship between stress, emotional wellbeing and relaxation
How to introduce relaxation without making it feel like another task a child must complete
Ways to adapt activities around a child’s communication, interests, abilities and sensory needs
Breathing exercises made accessible and engaging for children
Relaxing movement and gentle stretches
Safe, consent-led approaches to self-massage

Before you attend
This is an introductory professional-development session. It provides practical ideas for incorporating relaxation activities into appropriate work with children, but it does not provide a clinical qualification or qualify participants to practise as a relaxation therapist.
Some activities involve gentle movement. You will be encouraged to participate where comfortable, but you can adapt an activity, keep your camera off or choose simply to observe. Please look after your own wellbeing and physical needs throughout the session.
When using these approaches professionally, participants remain responsible for working within their own role, competence, safeguarding arrangements and organisational policies.
