Emotional Support During Your Child’s Journey
Little Comforts
Small comforts for moments when feelings feel too big.
When a child is living with serious illness, difficult feelings can sometimes become overwhelming. Children may not always have the words to explain how they feel or know what might help them find a moment of calm.
Our Little Comforts Collection brings together small, thoughtful and evidence-informed resources designed to help children feel comforted, express their emotions and feel a little less alone during difficult moments.
The collection includes resources such as our Calm Cards and handmade Worry Worms.
A little comfort can make a meaningful difference
Gentle resources for difficult days
CALM CARDS
Small, practical activities to help children find moments of calm. Our Calm Cards contain more than 100 child-friendly relaxation exercises designed to make learning calming techniques accessible, engaging and fun.
The cards were written by a qualified occupational therapist with experience of supporting children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties. Each activity is brought to life through gentle illustrations created by KizzehDraws, with straightforward instructions that children and their trusted adults can follow together.
The collection includes:
Breathing activities
Movement activities
Mindfulness activities
Massage activities
Children can choose an activity that feels right for them, whether they need help settling their breathing, releasing physical tension, focusing on the present moment or simply taking a pause during a difficult day. The cards can be used at home, in hospital or by professionals supporting a child. They are not intended to replace therapeutic or medical support, but can offer families a simple and reassuring way to create moments of calm, connection and comfort.
WORRY WORMS
Sometimes sharing a worry can make it feel a little lighter.
Our colourful Worry Worms are handmade with care by our wonderful crochet volunteers. Each one provides a small, comforting companion that a child can hold and keep close when they are feeling anxious, sad or overwhelmed.
Every Worry Worm comes with a gentle message encouraging children to tell their worm what is troubling them—whether their worry feels big or small. This can help give children a simple and reassuring way to begin expressing difficult feelings, particularly when finding the right words is hard.
A Worry Worm can be held during hospital appointments, treatment or other uncertain moments. Parents and carers can also use it to begin a gentle conversation by asking what the child might like to tell their worm.
Each Worry Worm is individually handmade, so its colour, size and appearance will vary. This makes every one a unique little companion.
Worry Worms are part of our Little Comforts Collection and are available to children and siblings who may benefit from some additional emotional support.
Each resource has been thoughtfully created to offer comfort, encourage expression and help children find moments of calm.
“These cards have been amazing. Really easy to do as a family and the children really enjoying doing the tasks. A wonderful well-being tool. Thank you Ripples of Compassion for helping to bring some calm into our lives.”
